Earthquake! Flood! Hurricane!
Extreme events are occurrences of unusually severe weather or climate conditions that can cause devastating impacts on communities and agricultural and natural ecosystems. Weather-related extreme events are often short-lived and include such things as heat waves, freezes, heavy downpours, tornadoes, tropical cyclones, and floods.
Will your simulated community be ready when disaster strikes? What might you need to prepare to keep your neighbors and family safe? How quickly can everyone get back to normal? Your decisions hold the keys.
Extreme Event is an award-winning one time, in-person role-playing game that gives participants a taste of what it takes to engage in an emergency management response scenario and build community resilience in the face of disaster.
In keeping with National Preparedness Month, players work together in a live multiplayer scenario to make decisions and solve problems during an engaging, fast-paced disaster simulation. This game builds knowledge in STEM concepts and disaster resilience, as well as skills such as critical thinking, coalition building, and adapting to change. Participants will need to gather data, analyze changing situations, work together, and make decisions based on real disaster events.
Will your community survive and thrive in the face of adversity? Come on out to the Miller Branch to find out!
This game was developed by the National Academy of Sciences’ Marian Koshland Science Museum (now LabX) in collaboration with the Resilient America Roundtable.
Registration will open 2 weeks before the date of the class.
If you register and find later that you cannot attend, please cancel your registration and give someone the seat!
