In memory of Dr. Sydney L. Cousin, former Superintendent of the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS), his family has established the Dr. Sydney Cousin Memorial Fund through the Friends & Foundation of Howard County Library System (HCLS) to support educational initiatives and classes at the library’s six branches for years to come.
Dr. Cousin’s long career with the school system started in 1987 as Director of School Construction and Planning. His exemplary work enabled him to excel and become the Superintendent of HCPSS in 2004. Prior to his work in Howard County, he was a junior high school history teacher and had other jobs with Baltimore City government.
Dr. Cousin believed that, “every child can learn.” The fund will be a ongoing tribute to his 25 year legacy with HCPSS, which has a strong partnership with HCLS via the A+ Partners in Education.
The family established the Dr. Sydney Cousin Memorial Fund because
of his special fondness for libraries. Notably, the family shared that Dr. Cousin had a library in his home and often talked about supplementing his education by pursuing a Master’s of Library Science degree one day.
