Notable Author Event: Isabel Wilkerson, with Korva Coleman
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Thank you for your interest in our notable author event with Isabel Wilkerson. Due to tremendous response, registration is now closed. However, we are delighted to accommodate non-registered customers in our simulcast seating areas where they can view the event in real time.

We encourage you to attend even if you have not registered. All attendees have the opportunity to purchase copies of The Warmth of Other Suns and obtain Isabel Wilkerson's autograph during the book signing and reception.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Pulitzer-prize winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author Isabel Wilkerson presents the award-winning The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration. The story tells of the decades-long migration of six million black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities between 1915 and 1970 in search of a better life. This migration brought us jazz, Motown, rhythm and blues, and hip hop. Famous Americans such as John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Jimi Hendrix, Toni Morrison, Malcolm X, Denzel Washington, and Michelle Obama are children or grandchildren of the Great Migration. It forever changed the cultural and political landscape of America.

The Warmth Of Other Suns won the 2010 National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction, the 2011 Anisfield-Wolf Award for Nonfiction, the 2011 Hillman Book Prize, the 2011 Lynton History Prize from Harvard and Columbia universities, the 2011 Heartland Prize for Nonfiction, the Stephen Ambrose Oral History Prize, the Independent Literary Award for Nonfiction, the Horace Mann Bond Book Award from Harvard University, the NAACP Image Award for best literary debut and was shortlisted for the 2011 Pen-Galbraith Literary Award for Nonfiction and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize.

Korva Coleman is a newscaster for NPR. She writes, produces and delivers national newscasts airing during NPR's newsmagazines All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Weekend Edition. Occasionally she serves as a substitute host for Talk of the Nation, Weekend All Things Considered, and Weekend Edition. Coleman's work has been recognized by the Arizona Associated Press Awards for best radio newscast, editorial, and short feature. Register online, by phone, or at your branch.

Presented in partnership with HoCoPoLitSo. Sponsored by Friends of Howard County Library and Phyllis and James Madachy. A Meet the Author event.
