We’re still promoting summer reading in Howard County middle and high schools, and at some of those schools we’re seeing bulk registrations of Pay the Piper as students choose their books for the summer.

• There are now 196 copies of Pay the Piper being passed. We’re closing in on 200!
• Eighteen copies of the book have been registered this week.
• Sixteen books were registered for the first time.
• Twelve copies were registered by students at Lake Elkhorn Middle School.
• Book 768 was registered locally for the second time
• Book 810 was registered for a fourth time in Princeville, Peoria County, Illinois.

Thanks to Summer Reading book promotions at Lake Elkhorn Middle School, we’ve had another huge week at Pass the Book. 26 books were registered this week in Columbia, MD:

All of these books were registered for the first time except book 747, which was registered for the second time after first being registered on June 3rd. Our total number of active copies has taken another significant leap:

Our summer reading book promotions have brought a busy week for Pass the Book this week, thanks to our friends at Oakland Mills Middle School. 25 books have been registered locally in the past two weeks. We have some things to celebrate at Pass the Book this week. Since Pass the Book began in October 2009, books have been registered and passed more than 500 times! Book 1169, registered in Laurel, MD on May 9 was the 500th book registered.

Seven copies of Pay the Piper have been passed since we last checked in on April 22nd, and one book has been registered for the fifth time.

Three books were registered for the first time, and four familiar copies re-appeared. Book 810 was registered in Illinois for a third time. Book 969 moved from College Park, MD to Silver Spring, and book 1081 was re-registered in Ellicott City. Book 1158 was re-registered too.

Book 1158 became our first book registered in Texas, when it found a home in Houston after being passed for the fifth time, 1200 miles from Henderson, Nevada. Book 1158 has now had five different owners and traveled 3500 miles, and Texas becomes the tenth state to host a copy of Pay the Piper. Copies of Pay the Piper have been registered in Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah and Virginia.

Three more copies of Pay the Piper were registered this week. One was registered in-state for the first time, and two were passed out of state & registered for the second time.  Book 643 traveled 613 miles to Gurnee, IL and Book 631 traveled 295 miles from Elkton, MD to Niagara Falls. Here are the details:

Book 643 is the second book registered in Illinois, and our third registration there after the recent adventures of book 810. Meanwhile, book 631 is our fourth book registered in New York State. Two books (562 and 1158) have been registered in West Point, book 234 was registered in New York City in February 2010, and this week’s registration expands Pass the Book to Niagara Falls, NY.

As we enter the last week of April 2011, we’re only five passes away from recording our 500th registration. If you have a book, pass it this week to help us reach our goal. If you would like to launch a book this week, visit the closest branch of Howard County Library to collect a copy.

We’ve had an exciting week here at Pass the Book. Three books were registered for the second time. Two of these were international passes to countries that have not previously hosted a book, and the third was an out-of-state pass. Here are the details:

Book 150, a copy of The Secret Hour first registered in June 2010, was passed 7024 miles this week from Columbia, MD to Sharjah, UAE. Book 1178 was passed 8564 miles from Laurel, MD to Manila a month after being registered for the first time. There are now five different countries hosting copies of Pay the Piper – Australia, India, Japan, the Philippines and the United States. Eight countries including the UAE are hosting a copy of The Secret Hour.

We’re still hoping for a Pass the Book title to be registered in Africa or South America. If you can help us by passing a book south of the equator, pick up a copy from your closest branch of Howard County Library System this week, and register, read and pass.

Pass the Book has had another great week this week, with five first-time registrations, including book 631 registered out-of-county in Elkton, MD.

These registrations have pushed us past another milestone. Copies of Pay the Piper have been registered 150 times since our kick-off event in October.  We’re also closing in on 500 total passes since Pass the Book began in October 2009:

Two books have been registered locally in the past two weeks:

Both book 20, a copy of The Secret Hour, and book 1049, a copy of Pay the Piper, were registered for the second time in Ellicott City. Our total number of passes continues to climb. Seventy-seven books have now been registered at least twice, and copies of Pay the Piper have been registered 145 times.
