Welcome Aboard The STEAM Machine!
Howard County Library System’s mobile classroom brings science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics classes to 2nd to 12th-grade students unable to participate in STEAM classes at the HCLS branches. Priority is given to students from disconnected and under-resourced communities. Through hands-on projects and experiments, students become scientists and engineers. HCLS’ STEAM classes provide academic and social enrichment aligned with HCPSS’ science curriculum. HCLS instructors will customize classes to students’ grade levels, interests, and aspirations.
The STEAM Machine’s interior classroom is universally accessible and seats up to 14 students and two instructors. Arrangements can be made for larger classes, using an exterior classroom setting under the STEAM Machine’s awnings. Classes are typically 30 minutes or 60 minutes in length.
The STEAM Machine is Wi-Fi enabled and equipped with laptops, science kits, supplies, and books. STEAM Machine Instructors look forward to co-creating memorable learning experiences with students through hands-on enrichment opportunities. By engaging students from disconnected communities throughout Howard County, the STEAM Machine is a bold investment in Howard County’s bright future.
