“My wife Deanna and I are grandparents and longtime Howard County residents. We love giving back and staying involved in our community. As volunteers at Cradlerock Elementary School we have seen how our students benefit from the stable, after-school learning environment at Howard County Library System’s East Columbia Branch.
With HCLS East Columbia Branch just a short walk from the school, students find a stimulating, nurturing atmosphere. HCLS’ Teen Time after-school initiative captures their attention with uplifting messages, engaging presentations, and fun team building activities. HCLS instructors provide homework assistance and mentoring, and serve as good role models. And when the newly renovated East Columbia Branch re-opens, students will benefit from the new 1,500 sq ft. TeenUp space with a Student Design Center, HiTech classroom, and Homework Center.
The future of young people in Howard County is important to me and that’s why I joined Friends & Foundation of HCLS. I know my yearly investment helps HCLS continue to offer initiatives like Teen Time and the new TeenUp space that improve students’ academic success and better prepare our next generation of leaders and engaged citizens. And that’s what it means to be a “Friend!”
