“I fell in love with libraries when I was a child and I never outgrew that feeling. In fact, the only thing I love more than libraries are dogs! So you can imagine my delight when my favorite library system introduced HiTails Ambassadors.
Through this new partnership Howard County Library System provides students with an opportunity to read to shelter animals awaiting adoption at Howard County Animal Control & Adoption Center. By reading out loud to appreciative, non-judgmental dogs (cats and rabbits too) the students’ confidence and compassion grow. Even better, this human interaction helps soothes the anxious and scared animals and increases their chance for adoption.
Innovative and creative initiatives like HiTail Ambassadors require financial support above and beond public funding and that is why I am so proud to be a Friend of Howard County Library System. When I give to Friends, I know I am helping HCLS continue to provide meaningful educational experiences that positively affect our whole community. And that’s what it means to be a Friend!”
