If we do not own a specific item, it can usually be found via Marina (a statewide method of requesting items from other Maryland public libraries). Please keep in mind that materials obtained via Marina may take up to two weeks to arrive. If you are unable to find materials via Marina, a request can be made via the Request Book link in My Account (in Marina). Materials obtained from out-of-state libraries may take longer to arrive depending on availability and delivery methods.
While many types of materials can be requested through interlibrary loan, a number of institutions do not lend audiovisual or recently published materials. In addition, you may incur additional fees to borrow from out-of-state libraries. Please note the maximum cost you are willing to pay via the Request Book form in Marina. Fees are payable at the time of pickup.
NOTE: As of October 1, 2015, A+ Educator cards can no longer be used to check out materials through Interlibrary Loan. The six-week loan period for Educator Card exceeds the loan period stipulated by loaning libraries, placing us in violation of the Interlibrary Loan agreement. As a result, our borrowing privileges have either been suspended or revoked by a number of libraries in the network, jeopardizing our ability to fulfill many customers’ requests. As a dedicated Howard County Library System customer, I hope you can understand the reason for this decision. You may continue to request and borrow Interlibrary Loan materials with your personal Howard County Library System card. Thank you for your support.
